Do you rent out a holiday home, run a small B&B or list your home on a rental platform? Then you know how much time goes into the changeover between guests. The bedding is often the biggest job. In this article you will read how to organise bed-making in your rental accommodation more smartly, and why more and more hosts are choosing a washable duvet without a cover.
The changeover challenge
Between one guest checking out and the next checking in, there are often only a few hours. In that time everything has to be clean, tidy and ready. Beds are a real time-eater: sheets off, duvet covers off, wash everything, then get everything neatly back onto the duvets. With several bedrooms, that adds up quickly.
On top of that, guests expect a bed that looks fresh and well kept. A crooked duvet cover or a duvet that has slid down inside the cover is immediately noticeable, and can come back in a review.
Why a duvet without a cover works well for rentals
Faster changeovers
With a duvet with an attached cover, there is no duvet cover to take off or put on. You take the duvet off the bed, wash it as a whole and put it back after drying. That saves noticeable time per bed, especially if you have several beds.
The whole duvet gets washed
With a classic duvet you wash the cover after every guest, but the duvet itself much less often. With a duvet without a cover, you wash the whole thing after every guest. Snoozella duvets can go in the washing machine at up to 60 °C, so you can hot-wash them.
Always a neat bed
Because cover and filling are one whole, nothing can shift. The bed looks neat and calm after making it, without you having to pull and shake to get everything straight.
Simple for cleaning staff
Do you work with a cleaner or a cleaning company? A system without duvet covers is easy to explain and gives a consistent result, whoever makes the bed.
How to organise the bedding in your rental property
1. Work with two sets per bed
With two duvets per bed, there is always a clean one ready. You put the clean duvet straight on the bed and wash the used duvet after the changeover. That way you never have to wait for the dryer.
2. Choose standard sizes
Try to use as few different sizes as possible throughout your accommodation. A commonly used rule of thumb is that the duvet should be at least 40 cm wider than the mattress: 90 cm becomes 140x200, 120 cm becomes 160x200, 160 cm becomes 200x200 and 180 or 200 cm becomes 240x200. See the size guide for all the details.
3. Take your washing machine into account
Large duvets need a roomy drum: for Snoozella 5 kg for 140x200 and 160x200, 7 kg for 200x200 and 10 kg for 240x200. If you have several large beds, a machine with a large drum or a regular arrangement with a launderette is worth considering.
4. Choose a colour per room
Give each bedroom its own colour. It looks well thought out, and you can see at a glance which duvet belongs where.
5. Write down instructions
Write a short instruction for the changeover: wash programme, temperature, drying and shaking up. You can refer to the washing instructions.
Washing routine for hosts
- Wash each duvet separately, up to 60 °C at about 1000 rpm.
- Use a normal dose of detergent; too much rinses out less well.
- Dry in the tumble dryer on a normal programme and shake it in between, or let it dry completely on the line.
- Only put a duvet back once it is completely dry on the inside as well.
- Keep spare duvets clean and dry in a breathable bag.
Appearance: first impressions count
The bed is often one of the first things guests see when they walk into the bedroom, and it often features in the photos of your listing. A plain, calm colour looks fresh and hotel-like. With the reversible ComfyBed Duo you can even put a different side on top each season for a new look.

Frequently asked questions
How many duvets do I need per bed?
Two per bed is a practical basis: one on the bed and one clean in reserve. With many changeovers in quick succession, a third can be handy.
Won't guests find a duvet without a cover strange?
The duvet has a finished outer fabric and looks like a normally made bed. You can mention in your welcome information that the duvet is washed in its entirety after every guest.
Can I have the duvets washed by a laundry service?
You can, as long as the laundry follows the washing instructions: a maximum of 60 °C and then thorough drying.
