240x200 duvet without a cover
Do the two of you sleep on a 180 or 200 cm wide mattress? Then a 240x200 cm duvet is the size that gives you both plenty of room. And without a duvet cover, you are spared the hardest bedding chore: getting a double cover onto a large duvet.
Why 240x200 without a cover?
- No more large duvet cover. Putting on a 240x200 duvet cover on your own is quite a job. With a duvet with an attached cover, that step disappears completely.
- Room for two. On a 180 or 200 cm mattress, the duvet has enough overhang on both sides, so nobody is left in the cold.
- Always a neat bed. With a large duvet, a crooked cover is extra noticeable. Without a duvet cover, nothing can shift.
- The whole duvet in the wash. Up to 60 °C, then in the tumble dryer or on the line.
Does 240x200 fit your bed?
We recommend a duvet that is at least 40 cm wider than your mattress. That gives you this breakdown:
| Mattress width | Recommended duvet size | Washing machine drum |
|---|---|---|
| 90 cm | 140x200 cm | min. 5 kg |
| 120 cm | 160x200 cm | min. 5 kg |
| 160 cm | 200x200 cm | min. 7 kg |
| 180 cm | 240x200 cm | min. 10 kg |
| 200 cm | 240x200 cm | min. 10 kg |
You will find more explanation in the size guide and in our article which duvet size fits my bed.
Washing and drying a large duvet
A drum of at least 10 kg
A 240x200 duvet needs room to get properly clean and rinsed. So use a washing machine with a drum of at least 10 kg. Wash the duvet separately, up to 60 °C and at about 1000 rpm.
Washing machine too small? No problem
Many home washing machines are smaller than 10 kg. In that case the launderette is a handy solution: there you will often find large machines and large dryers, so you are done in one visit. Another option: choose two separate duvets, for example two 140x200 duvets, each of which fits in a 5 kg drum.
Drying
In the tumble dryer on a normal programme, with a shake in between. Or on the line, spread over several lines, until the duvet is completely dry inside as well. Read all the details in the washing instructions.

Frequently asked questions
Which washing machine do I need for a 240x200 duvet?
A washing machine with a drum of at least 10 kg. If your machine is smaller, you can wash the duvet at a launderette.
Is 240x200 too big for a 160 cm mattress?
For a 160 cm mattress we recommend 200x200. That size is roomy enough and fits in a 7 kg drum.
Would we be better off with two single duvets?
That is a matter of taste. Two duvets fit in a smaller drum and everyone has their own duvet. One large duvet looks like a single whole.
Can the 240x200 duvet go in the tumble dryer?
Yes, on a normal programme. Make sure the dryer is large enough and give the duvet a shake in between.
