A duvet that is too small is just not comfortable: your feet stick out or you pull it off your partner. Fortunately, choosing the right size is not difficult.
The rule of thumb: 40 cm wider than your bed
Choose a duvet that is at least 40 cm wider than your mattress. Then about 20 cm hangs over the edge on both sides and you stay nicely covered, even when you turn over.
The sizes at a glance
- 140x200 cm: for a single bed 80 to 100 cm wide.
- 160x200 cm: for a large single bed 120 cm wide.
- 200x200 cm: for a double bed 140 to 160 cm wide.
- 240x200 cm: for a twin bed (lits-jumeaux) 180 to 200 cm wide.
When should you choose a size larger?
- You sleep together and one of you moves around a lot.
- You have a box spring or a thick mattress, so the duvet needs to hang further over the edge.
- You love a roomy, luxuriously made bed.
Do not forget your washing machine
With a washable duvet without a cover, you wash the whole duvet. So a larger size also needs a larger drum. The washing instructions show which drum capacity you need per size.
